“Break Your Trance, Take Charge, and Focus on Your Vision” Presentation

“Break Your Trance, Take Charge, and Focus on Your Vision” Presentation

Peoria_SEVEN_talk-1-smI recently gave short talk to my S.E.V.E.N. networking group about “Break Your Trance, Take Charge, and Focus on Your Vision.” At the beginning of the presentation, I mention how so many people have misconceptions about hypnosis. The eyeglasses were to demonstrate what many people think of the process.

What most people don’t realize is that they hypnotize themselves every day. Hypnosis is simply focusing the attention on one thought. You can take charge of this process and focus on what it is you want and where you want to go. When you do, your actions will follow your attention, and you’ll get better results.

I gave the attendees some action steps to get them started: writing down what you want your steps, becoming aware of your autosuggestions, and visualizing yourself succeeding. The presentation inspired a lively discussion afterwards. I had a great time, and based on the audience’s reaction, so did they. HynpnoGlasses-SEVEN-1-22-16-sm

Why does it take so long to change?

Why does it take so long to change?

Question MarkQuestion: Why does it take so long to make a change?

Answer: Consider how long you’ve been doing what you’re doing, or how long you’ve been thinking that way. Realize you’re probably getting some benefits or perks from continuing the old pattern. Although you want to change, how much time and effort are you putting into thinking about it, and/or doing something about it?

Change doesn’t just happen. Even sudden, seemingly unexpected improvements have had a foundation created for them. It’s like turning a car around in a restricted area. You have to “back and fill” to be able to go in the opposite direction, or else the car will get stuck.

You’ve been on a path going one direction, and now you want to change it. It takes time, energy, and attention to convince your subconscious that the new route safe and attractive. The more of each of these you provide, the faster the change will be.

Book Review: Take the Bully by the Horns

Book Review: Take the Bully by the Horns

Take the Bully by the Horns: Stop Unethical, Uncooperative, or Unpleasant People from Running and Ruining Your Life
by Sam Horn

This book is incredible! I recommend it to many of my clients. Full of information, humor, and specific techniques of what to do, it’s essential for anyone who is dealing with a controlling person who comes across as a bully.

I don’t usually like labeling people, but this book addresses more a type of behavior. When a person pushes, takes advantage, and tries to control by intimidation, then they are acting like a bully and need to be responded to as such.

Each chapter is divided into short segments, which makes it much easier to read and absorb. At the end of each chapter, there’s a worksheet to decide how to handle a situation that is similar to the focus of that chapter, and questions to think over. There’s also a summary of the chapter that describes the harmful beliefs a person might have in a difficult situation, as well as the corresponding positive behaviors.

This book validated much of what I’ve come to realize over the years. There are sections on why a bully is the way he/she is, how they manipulate to get their way, what kind of idealistic ideas we might have had that encouraged them, how to stop people-pleasing, how to set and keep boundaries, and much, much more. It even has a chapter on what to tell children who are dealing with bullies at school.

“Take The Bully By The Horns” is also for anyone who lacks self-confidence or has a low self-worth or self-esteem. I’m so glad that I ran across this book and got it when I did. It’s one I don’t lend out of my personal library.
