Take the Bully by the Horns: Stop Unethical, Uncooperative, or Unpleasant People from Running and Ruining Your Life
by Sam Horn

This book is incredible! I recommend it to many of my clients. Full of information, humor, and specific techniques of what to do, it’s essential for anyone who is dealing with a controlling person who comes across as a bully.

I don’t usually like labeling people, but this book addresses more a type of behavior. When a person pushes, takes advantage, and tries to control by intimidation, then they are acting like a bully and need to be responded to as such.

Each chapter is divided into short segments, which makes it much easier to read and absorb. At the end of each chapter, there’s a worksheet to decide how to handle a situation that is similar to the focus of that chapter, and questions to think over. There’s also a summary of the chapter that describes the harmful beliefs a person might have in a difficult situation, as well as the corresponding positive behaviors.

This book validated much of what I’ve come to realize over the years. There are sections on why a bully is the way he/she is, how they manipulate to get their way, what kind of idealistic ideas we might have had that encouraged them, how to stop people-pleasing, how to set and keep boundaries, and much, much more. It even has a chapter on what to tell children who are dealing with bullies at school.

“Take The Bully By The Horns” is also for anyone who lacks self-confidence or has a low self-worth or self-esteem. I’m so glad that I ran across this book and got it when I did. It’s one I don’t lend out of my personal library.

Book Review – Controlling People

Book Review – Controlling People

“Controlling People: How to Recognize, Understand and Deal with People Who Try to Control You”
By Patricia Evans

This is a great book for anyone with a controlling person in their life. Patricia Evans has written a couple of other books that I’ve recommended, “The Verbally Abusive Relationship” and “Verbal Abuse Survivor’s Speak Out.” “Controlling People” goes into greater detail of why these people act as they do.

For them, the people close to them are cardboard characters that they project their own thoughts onto. They expect people to agree with them at all times, and to read their thoughts about what they want.

The old “If you loved me, you’d know what I want” is their theme. And if the other person doesn’t agree, or reflect the controlling person’s ideas, then the controlling person feels betrayed and many times will fly into a rage.

Not only does this happen in personal relationships, but it also occurs in society, different cultures, and religions, resulting in bigotry, prejudice, stereotypes, and sometimes death. It all has to do with trying to control others so that they think like the controller, so the controller feels comfortable and safe.

This book was an eye-opener for me in understanding various people I’ve had dealings with. I recommend it to anyone who has a boss, relative, friend or partner who is controlling.

He touches on the different habits that you have, the success and failure mechanism within you, and how to create changes that support your self-image and success.

Book Review – Grow Rich While You Sleep

Book Review – Grow Rich While You Sleep

Grow Rich While you Sleep
by Ben Sweetland

This book is a classic. Although the title suggests that the book’s subject is only about getting rich while sleeping, the author covers a lot more territory than that. The beginning of the book does explain how to utilize the subconscious while going to sleep and sleeping. And if those were the only chapters read, it would be well worth it. He details various affirmations to use as one is going to sleep, to help program the subconscious. He explains exactly what to do and how to do it to contact the creative mind to get it to work on what it is you want.

But that’s only a small amount of information contained in this jewel. In very simple language, with lots of examples, the author explains how the creative mind works, and how we are “a mind with a body.” He gives an exercise to practice to become more positive, along with other exercises to improve one’s success consciousness. Along with affirmations, he gives specific directions on how to go about conditioning the mind for abundance.

Although this book was written almost forty years ago, and some of the details in the examples are outdated (such as what a good salary is), the basic information is timeless and extremely beneficial.

The book is out-of-print, but is available in Kindle format. You can download a Kindle Reading App for your PC, Mac and other devices.

Flagstaff Aspen RainbowHow to Train Your Brain to Stay Positive
All too often, we beat ourselves up for our failures or let ourselves dwell on the negative. By focusing on the positive, we’re more motivated, productive, and likely to succeed. Here are three tips to help you train your brain to stay positive.

Research: Meditation does more than calm your mind, it changes your brain
Practicing yoga and meditation can do more than calm your mind — research shows it can change your brain. Researchers found it changes parts of the brain connected to learning, memory, focus and the stress response.

Why Hiding Your True Self Feels So Terrible
Finding ways to be true to yourself — whatever that means to you — may be something more than a meaningless self-help cliché. Most people feel tainted when they behave in ways that feel false and feel good when they act in authentic ways. To our minds, authenticity may be a moral imperative.

Do I need to know the cause of a problem to resolve it?

Do I need to know the cause of a problem to resolve it?

Question MarkQuestion: Do I need to consciously know the original cause of a problem to resolve it?

Answer: Not necessarily. Many people want to know where a problem got started, and for some it’s helpful to know. But generally it isn’t imperative to understand what happened to release the issue. The subconscious mind knows where the problem got its start, and what might have reinforced it. And the subconscious mind knows what to do to release and resolve it.

You may not even consciously know what to do about it, but the subconscious mind knows how to accomplish it. But it has to be directed to do so, and you have to be willing to let go of the emotion associated with it. And the subconscious will only heal it if it feels it’s safe for you to do so.
