The Miracle of Mind Dynamics: Use Your Subconscious Mind to Obtain Complete Control Over Your Destiny
Joseph Murphy

I am a fan of Joseph Murphy and his writings, and have reviewed a couple of his other books before. This one is full of Universal principals and wisdom for every aspect of life. Examining the subjects of health, life and death, luck and good fortune, prayer, and much more, he illustrates each one with an example in someone’s life.

He explains spiritual principles in very basic ways, so that every person who reads this can put them to use in their lives immediately. He touches on the metaphysical perspective of many familiar Biblical and spiritual ideas, such as karma and God’s will.

Although this book doesn’t have quite as many affirmations as some of his other books have, it gives specific instructions on how to use the power of the mind to improve one’s life. A mine of information on how the Universe works and our place in it, it’s a must-have for anyone who yearns to understand more about their relationship to Spirit and Its good.

Why does it take so long to change?

Why does it take so long to change?

Question MarkQuestion: Why does it take so long to make a change?

Answer: Consider how long you’ve been doing what you’re doing, or how long you’ve been thinking that way. Realize you’re probably getting some benefits or perks from continuing the old pattern. Although you want to change, how much time and effort are you putting into thinking about it, and/or doing something about it?

Change doesn’t just happen. Even sudden, seemingly unexpected improvements have had a foundation created for them. It’s like turning a car around in a restricted area. You have to “back and fill” to be able to go in the opposite direction, or else the car will get stuck.

You’ve been on a path going one direction, and now you want to change it. It takes time, energy, and attention to convince your subconscious that the new route safe and attractive. The more of each of these you provide, the faster the change will be.

Am I sabotaging myself?

Am I sabotaging myself?

Question MarkQuestion: When I change my goals as one of my desires manifests, am I sabotaging myself or giving the Universe conflicting messages?

Answer: Most people have the dilemma you do. As you manifest your desires, your desires expand and change. That is the way of the Universe, to learn to accept more of it into your life. When you reach the top of one hill, you then see much more of the horizon.

However, if one day you say, “I’d like to have a Mercedes” and visualize that, and the next day say “I’d like a Land Rover” and visualize that, you’re giving conflicting messages to your subconscious mind. It won’t know what you want, therefore will give you your most dominant idea, which may be a Ford Escort.

This is why so many teachers tell us to write down our desires. That way, we can keep them straight, and stay focused on what we’ve written, rather than meandering all over the place. We give our subconscious a clear vision, and the subconscious will return it fulfilled.

For years, I didn’t believe that I needed to write down my desires, figuring that I had them in my head. Some came to pass, the ones I was the clearest on, and stayed true to. When I did begin to write them down, I found how often I’d change them, then change back. No wonder my desires didn’t manifest very often. I was giving my mind confusing information.

Why hasn’t the affirmation “I win the lottery” worked?

Why hasn’t the affirmation “I win the lottery” worked?

Question MarkQuestion: Why has the affirmation, “I always win the lottery,” not worked for me?

Answer: There are a couple of things that happen with the mind and affirmations. First, you have to have the consciousness of what you’re affirming. That’s actually what the affirmation is for. To build your consciousness. By affirming that you “always win the lottery,” you’re setting up a situation that the subconscious couldn’t possibly fulfill. No one “always” does anything.

The other problem is that you’re telling the Universe how your wealth has to come to you. By doing so, you’re actually limiting the Universe. It’s not up to you to figure out how your prosperity will manifest. I’m not saying not to work, or do what you know to do to improve your finances, because the Universe can only do for us what It can do through us. Remember that it all comes from the Universe through the channels you create.

I would suggest that you affirm an amount that you actually feel comfortable with. Many people have a glass ceiling they’ve created for how much they can accept. As the amount you affirm gets to be more believable, and you see some change, then increase it. What you’re doing is building your consciousness to accept more. And don’t limit where it has to come from. Your subconscious and the Universe know much more than you do about how it can happen.

As long as you’re doing things in the physical world to create channels, your subconscious and the Universe will direct more prosperity your way. It may not come through the channels you’ve worked on. The only thing that’s important is that you’ve been moving in a direction to build your acceptance. Don’t worry about how it’s going to happen.

So, two things to do: Affirm an amount you want that you can believe in, and trust the Universe to bring it to you.

Book Review – Grow Rich While You Sleep

Book Review – Grow Rich While You Sleep

Grow Rich While you Sleep
by Ben Sweetland

This book is a classic. Although the title suggests that the book’s subject is only about getting rich while sleeping, the author covers a lot more territory than that. The beginning of the book does explain how to utilize the subconscious while going to sleep and sleeping. And if those were the only chapters read, it would be well worth it. He details various affirmations to use as one is going to sleep, to help program the subconscious. He explains exactly what to do and how to do it to contact the creative mind to get it to work on what it is you want.

But that’s only a small amount of information contained in this jewel. In very simple language, with lots of examples, the author explains how the creative mind works, and how we are “a mind with a body.” He gives an exercise to practice to become more positive, along with other exercises to improve one’s success consciousness. Along with affirmations, he gives specific directions on how to go about conditioning the mind for abundance.

Although this book was written almost forty years ago, and some of the details in the examples are outdated (such as what a good salary is), the basic information is timeless and extremely beneficial.

The book is out-of-print, but is available in Kindle format. You can download a Kindle Reading App for your PC, Mac and other devices.

Why does an affirmation stop working after a day or so?

Why does an affirmation stop working after a day or so?

Hand holding seedlingQuestion: Why is it that an affirmation works for the first day or two, then stops working?

Answer: Remember that an affirmation only works on your consciousness, that’s what it’s changing. What is different in the way you use it in the first couple of days and the way you use it after that? Many times, when using an affirmation, it will be effective when a person is not putting pressure on it to perform.

I know that may not seem to make sense. But when a person tries to force the outcome, or has the attitude of “Okay, where is the result,” the conscious mind has taken control and is trying to force the issue. In that case, the subconscious doesn’t have the energy to fulfill its mission. The conscious mind is using it all.

A good analogy would be to imagine cupping your hand to hold water in it. If your hand is more relaxed and open, it will be able to hold the water. While if you place your hand in the water, but try to grab it by making a fist, the water will escape. When using an affirmation, you have to use it gently, and know that even when it doesn’t seem to be working, it is working on changing your consciousness.

I think letting go of control one of the most difficult things to learn in mind power. We have to trust the subconscious to manifest the subject of the affirmation, and our left-brained, western society is directly opposed to that. We’re taught to try to control the outcome by thinking constantly about it. That doesn’t work. Whenever you think of the issue, just remind yourself that your subconscious is handling it.

And remember that you’re training yourself. Just like learning a new sport, it’s going to take practice to get it right. And you won’t hit a perfect 100% all the time. Even the best basketball player doesn’t get the ball in the basket every time, but by practicing more, they do sink the basket a significant number of times.

Do I need to know the cause of a problem to resolve it?

Do I need to know the cause of a problem to resolve it?

Question MarkQuestion: Do I need to consciously know the original cause of a problem to resolve it?

Answer: Not necessarily. Many people want to know where a problem got started, and for some it’s helpful to know. But generally it isn’t imperative to understand what happened to release the issue. The subconscious mind knows where the problem got its start, and what might have reinforced it. And the subconscious mind knows what to do to release and resolve it.

You may not even consciously know what to do about it, but the subconscious mind knows how to accomplish it. But it has to be directed to do so, and you have to be willing to let go of the emotion associated with it. And the subconscious will only heal it if it feels it’s safe for you to do so.
