How long does it take to release outdated beliefs?

How long does it take to release outdated beliefs?

Question: How long does it take for the subconscious mind to release outdated beliefs?

Answer: I could be facetious and honest if I said “It takes as long as it takes.” But that wouldn’t be very helpful. Actually, there are a lot of factors that go into how long it takes. How badly do you want to make the change? Do you keep your mind focused on the change, knowing that it’s possible? Do you flood your mind with affirmations and statements of the change? Do you take actions that ground the change?

For example, if it would be for smoking, do you cut down, change the places you smoke, etc? For self-esteem, do you treat yourself well, do things that build your feelings of self-worth?

The subconscious will only release its old patterns when it realizes that you don’t need or want them anymore. Your conscious mind must convince your subconscious through the conscious mind’s focus and commitment. And the length of time it takes is in direct proportion to the amount of energy you use for the change. It could be overnight, or it could take years of small changes in that direction.

However, in general, any idea, thought, or belief that your conscious mind stays completely focused on for a month becomes a part of you by becoming part of your subconscious belief patterns.

Book Review – Tapestry of Healing

Book Review – Tapestry of Healing

tapestryofhealing“Tapestry of Healing: Where Reiki and Medicine Intertwine”
by Jeri Mills, M.D.

This is a wonderful exploration of a physician’s discovery of Reiki. It’s her personal story of her life and how she began using this ancient healing technique in her practice. She’s not only a physician, but a veterinarian, and used Reiki on her human patients and animals.

She describes her journey as she learns this healing art and then what happens as she begins to share it with her patients and colleagues. Some were more open to it than others.

The last half of the book is all about energy medicine, Reiki and how to use it. She explains some of the pitfalls and when you should let things be. This aligns with my own experience as a hypnotherapist. You can’t heal everyone.

For the Reiki practitioner, there are a lot of tips about how to use the energy from her own experiences. And for those who aren’t practitioners, she explains what energy healing is and how it’s used.

This book is for the person new to the idea of Reiki, as well as for practitioners of the ancient art. It contains valuable insights to guide any healer. It was a joy to read and I value its addition to my library.

Napoleon Hill “Think and Grow Rich” #10 – Overcoming Adversity and Defeat

Napoleon Hill “Think and Grow Rich” #10 – Overcoming Adversity and Defeat

In this rare video, Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich,” says that a positive mental attitude is the only way you overcome adversity and defeat. Sometimes adversity pushes you to fulfill a greater potential. Without the difficulty, you probably would never have been propelled to achieve more. As you look for the benefit within any challenge, you open up to the possibility of leading you to more success. Failure only occurs when you accept it as such.

Question: Can hypnosis help me believe that I will find my life partner?

Question: Can hypnosis help me believe that I will find my life partner?

Question: Can hypnosis help me believe that I will find my life partner, releasing the fear that it will never happen?

Answer: Hypnosis isn’t a magic wand, it works with the subconscious mind to help change attitudes, beliefs and both mental and physical habits quickly. Hypnosis can help to release fears, and help to believe in finding the perfect partner for you.

Settle on an affirmative statement about  this, like “The person I’m looking for is looking for me, someone who harmonizes with me” and some of the characteristics you’re looking for. Write a statement that convinces you that it’s possible, then trust your subconscious to do its work.

As long as you doubt it, then your subconscious will be acting on your doubt.

If you think you are beaten, you are….

If you think you are beaten, you are….

I love this poem, and wanted to share it.

Success and Failure Road Sign with dramatic clouds and sky.

“If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win, but think you can’t
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost,
For out in the world we find
Success being with a fellow’s will;
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outclassed, you are:
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can.”

Napoleon Hill “Think and Grow Rich” #9 – Personal Inititive

In this rare video, Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich,” analyzes how personal initiative is important in success. You have to be able to motivate yourself to success without someone else dictating to you. If you want to be successful, the habit of personal initiative is essential. He describes several traits of a person who has this important quality. Also, he reviews the principles in the previous eight videos.

“No You May Not!”

“No You May Not!”

by Barb Wade

Did you ever play the game “Mother May I” when you were a kid? You know, one child plays the “mother” and the other are the children. You must preface every move you make with the phrase, “Mother May I” or else you are out of the game.

And you can’t move until you get permission.

It’s surprising how many adults still play this game everyday. They are waiting around for someone – their boss, spouse, friends, and even, yes, their mother to give them permission to do the things they really want to do.

There is a part of us that is very comforted by getting permission and especially approval. That’s normal. But there comes a time when you must break free of the waiting game and take your own life by the horns.

At some point we have to realize that what is lurking behind all that longing for approval is fear, doubt, and feelings of not being good enough.

The biggest problem is that those fears and feelings aren’t based on reality – they are often irrational and false. Which means, that no amount of permission is going to make them go away.

But once you decide that you can give yourself the go-ahead, then no one can take that away from you. (At least not without your permission!)

If you find all of this easier said than done, don’t worry – you’re not alone. I know I’ve been there more than once. The next time you’re stuck, consider that all you might need is a little nudge of permission. Then try this:

Listen To Your Self-Talk:

When I say that people wait to get permission, it’s usually not literal. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we “can’t, shouldn’t, or must not” do something and we believe those thoughts to be true at face value.

The funny thing is, our beliefs (including the very self-limiting ones) are often picked up along the way, even since childhood and although they may sound like our ideas, they are actually deeply embedded reactions that don’t  necessarily reflect who we have grown to be as a person. The are “someone else’s voice.”

So next time you hear that voice of fear say, “I just can’t…” take a look at it as an observer and ask yourself, “Who says I can’t?” You might even get a very specific answer! (Like, “my 3rd grade teacher says so”). Once you know whose idea it really is, you can boldly proclaim, “Well, thanks for sharing, but I’m in charge and I say I CAN!”

And in doing so, give yourself complete and unabashed permission. It’s amazing how liberating that little exercise can be.

Once the fear and doubt have subsided a bit, make a plan to take some empowered action to “seal the deal.” So go to that event, take that class, make that phone call, hire that mentor – you don’t have to wait for permission!

Then surround yourself with friends and colleagues who will support you stepping into your new decision. Who knows what you might create?

Whatever it is you wish to do, be, or have, it’s time to decide that you’re worth it, you deserve it, and give yourself permission to follow your bliss today.

Divide goal to smaller steps?

Divide goal to smaller steps?

Question: Is it better to divide what we want to achieve (our goal) into small, easier to achieve steps in order to get faster results?

Answer: Many times it is easier to break up a goal into smaller steps, mainly so that your conscious mind can believe that they’re accessible. For instance, if you want more income, use a believable amount as your initial goal. That way you can feel successful as you accomplish it, and then set another goal of a little bit more. Or to release weight, set small increments of two, five, or ten pounds as your steps.

Sometimes, a person tries to break it up in such small steps that they’re micromanaging how it has to come about. In that case, it’s not a good idea for the smaller steps. For example, if some wanted a new apartment, they might state they wanted a certain amount of space (this is fine), for a certain amount of rent (this is fine, too), in a certain apartment building (not fine), on a certain floor (not fine).

Or someone might want a relationship. They could state the characteristics they wanted in their partner (this is good), how they would relate (good), and choose a certain person as their desired mate (not good).

In achieving a goal, your job is to decide what you want, break it into small steps that your conscious mind can believe and that your subconscious can accomplish without being overwhelmed. Then take any actions you know to take to bring it about. With you in motion, it’s up to your subconscious mind to find the way to manifest your goal.
