Why do I get drowsy with affirmation recording?

Why do I get drowsy with affirmation recording?

Question about affirmationsQuestion: I’ve created my own affirmation recording, with the statements delivered quickly in a monotone, and then I repeat them. With the pace being so fast, why do I get drowsy when I listen to it?

Answer: If you’re saying them in a droning voice, you could actually be putting yourself into a mild hypnotic state by the tone and way you say them. Also, anything you do often, by routine, and don’t think much about, will do that. In that state, the subconscious is actually more receptive to the statements.

Also, it could be that the statements are delivered too fast. If there’s little space between the statements, your mind could be getting overloaded with the data and will start to shut down to try to process it. It’s like you’re eating too fast and your mind can’t digest what’s being said. You need time to wrap your mind around what they say, mean, and feel their accomplishment. Your feeling is what will power them.

Sparks of Insight“I’m always expressing the Infinite Life within me through my thoughts and decisions. Creativity means that Universal energy is flowing through me. I now allow my creativity to express in positive and healthy ways.”

You’re always creative, from your thoughts creating your life, to deciding what to eat for dinner. This self-expression means that the Universe is flowing through you. Frustration, depression, and fear dam it up. If creativity isn’t flowing outwardly, then it’s getting stuffed inwardly and can adversely affect you. People who express their creativity, without criticism, are healthier and happier.

Sparks of InsightWhen you’re using an affirmation of “I am now…” if your conscious mind objects to it with “This isn’t true,” or “Who do you think you are,” change the affirmation to one of “I’m choosing.” By doing this, you’re taking it from having the object in the present to having the freedom to choose something different. The conscious mind generally won’t complain about that, and it’s much more empowering.

Holistic approaches for depression?

Holistic approaches for depression?

Question about affirmationsQuestion: I’ve been taking medication for depression, but what are some more holistic ways for me to deal with it?

Answer:  I’m not a medical doctor nor psychologist, so I can only give you some suggestions. But first, I completely support taking medication to start feeling better. Ernest Holmes, founder of Science of Mind said something to the effect of, “You might as well feel better while you’re getting better.” The medication will give extra energy to help think straight. And until that happens, healing can’t happen.

Studies are finding that much of depression is caused by the way we think, and what we think about. A thought always precedes a feeling, even if the thought is a fraction of a second long. It can create a downward spiral that results in depression. Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by David Burns, M.D. has exercises to help you turn those thoughts around. Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman, Ph.D. discusses much of the research into this.

Walking or exercise is also effective to improve one’s mood. They’ve done studies that have shown that walking 30 minutes a day 3-5 times a week (depending on the study) is as effective, by itself, as antidepressants. But when you’re feeling so down, you can’t get yourself moving, which is why medication can help jumpstart you.

One more suggestion, do some journaling. It’s been found to help depression when you write about your feelings about the traumatic events of your life. Not just about the experience, but your feelings about it. By itself, it doesn’t help PTSD a lot, but it does help. Write 15-20 minutes on at least four consecutive days, preferably in the morning.

A final note, STOP MENTALLY BEATING YOURSELF UP! If you notice you’re getting negative, so what? Condemning yourself for it will just give it more energy. Start writing down what your negative thoughts are, and then you can see if they’re valid.

Sparks of InsightEveryday we have an undercurrent of statements that we repeat to ourselves. Most of them are neutral as we talk our way through our day. But many of the statements are self-derogatory. Putting ourselves down and criticizing what we do. How would a friend respond to this kind of condemnation? The Universe certainly doesn’t believe this way. You are your best friend, and need to treat yourself as one. Become aware of your automatic remarks, challenge them, and change them into positive ones.

Should I Use Long or Short affirmations?

Should I Use Long or Short affirmations?

Question about affirmationsQuestion: How many affirmations should be used at a time for a single goal?

Answer: Some people say to only use one phrase as an affirmation for a goal. I disagree. I like to write what Ernest Holmes, Joseph Murphy, and Catherine Ponder call a “spiritual mind treatment.” It can sometimes be a couple of pages long.

In it, I identify with the Source of all good, know that it’s mine, then state my desire, taking the time to convince my mind why it’s possible and why I deserve it, then give thanks that it is done. My affirmation covers many of the issues of whatever challenge I’m experiencing. By using a longer affirmation, I’m able to address the whole condition.

Since what I’m “treating” is my consciousness of good, I will read the long one at least twice a day (usually first thing in the morning and before bed). And then during the day, I’ll use some shorter, reinforcing phrase(s)  to reinforce my new pattern of thinking.

That’s the way I’ve written my Affirmation Ebooks. I’ve written long affirmations for weight, abundance and self-acceptance, and then included shorter statements to trigger what the longer one addressed.

You can start making those changes right now. How would that feel?

Open your eyes. When your negative self-talk starts to bring you down, shift your attention to what’s positive about you. This will help to improve your self-image and will make massive changes in your world.
