The Science of Successful Living: The Spiritual Formula for a Joyous Life
by Raymond Charles Barker

The subtitle on my copy of this book reads, “Written by a successful man for people who want success.” The author was a well-known author and minister for a Religious Science church in New York City. He also co-authored a book (now out of print) with Maxwell Maltz (who wrote “Psychocybernetics”).

This book gives straight, practical, down to earth information on how to experience greater success in all areas of your life. The author takes the reader into the depths of how the Universal and creative minds work, and translates abstract concepts into concrete explanations. As you read the information in this book, your consciousness will change to increase your acceptance of abundance, health, joy and peace of mind.

My copy is old and falling apart, with many passages either underlined or highlighted. But I wouldn’t trade it for any other, more recent, book. I value it too highly.

Sparks of Insight“Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon… must inevitably come to pass!” – Paul J. Meyer

This contains all the instructions you need to be a success. Visualize your goal in detail and feel it happening. Desire it so much that you’ll make whatever changes you need to. Believe that you can have it and that you deserve it. And then take the actions necessary to make it manifest. When you establish these elements in your life, and get in motion, you’ll be Divinely guided to your destination.

Sparks of InsightYou can’t be positive 100% of the time. To do so would actually be detrimental to your goal. Just as when you’re walking down a rocky path, you gaze at the beauty around you, but you also scan your surroundings to make sure you don’t trip over a rock. By keeping your attention firmly fixed on your desire, you might miss important information that you need. Be aware of elements that might get in your way, but don’t let them take over your consciousness.

Sparks of Insight“The Universe knows what to do in every situation or circumstance to bring forth harmony, peace and perfect action. I allow the Universe to work through me, guiding my every thought and action. With complete peace of mind, I know that there is a perfect solution to any challenge I might have.”

To receive the answer to a problem, you need to have the assurance that there is a solution. By taking the issue to a higher point of your consciousness, you’re able to loosen your grip on fear or anxiety about it and bring in a greater understanding than you could comprehend.

Can I Affirm for Others?

Can I Affirm for Others?

Question about affirmationsQuestion: Can I affirm that I and my loved ones prosper and are happy, healthy, positive, loving and kind?

Answer: You can’t change another person with an affirmation, you can only change yourself. You can affirm for another person, or people, but it’s recommended that you only do it when they are in alignment with what the affirmation concerns. If you go against what they believe for themselves, or what they want, then you’re imposing your desires on them and infringing on their freedom of choice.

Book Review-How to Be Your Own Best Friend

How to Be Your Own Best Friend
by Mildred Newman and Bernard Berkowitz

This book was originally published over forty-five years ago. Although it has been around a long time, the information and advice in it is as fresh and helpful as it was back then. Written in a question-and-answer format, the two psychoanalysts (who are married to each other) explain what is necessary for us to love and accept ourselves.

I read this book in my early twenties, and it improved the way I thought about myself and my world. We tend to be a friend to everyone but ourselves. Instead, we treat ourselves as we might an enemy. The authors explain the ideas we need to entertain to be happier and healthier human beings. For when we treat ourselves with the same appreciation, empathy and compassion that we give to our friends, our lives transform.

Sparks of InsightTo become a spiritual master, you must practice the principles, not just think about them. Reading books, watching videos, and going to seminars gives you the motivation and direction you need to put these ideas to work in your world. But if you simply contemplate them and don’t apply them, you’ll never reap the rewards. So, the next time you have a challenge, look for the gift from it. If you reach a block in your path, ask for guidance and what to do next. When someone cuts you off in traffic, imagine their Higher Self and how Its trying to help them. Remember that you have to walk your talk.

Sparks of Insight“Little souls wish you to be unhappy. It aggravates them to have you joyous, efficient and free.” – David Seabury

It took me a long time to really comprehend this. Unfortunately, miserable people want everyone else to be miserable too. They’ll do everything they can to deflate you, undermine you, and sabotage you. You need to do everything you can to minimize your contact with them, even if they are loved ones. You can’t change them and you have to protect your well-being. Just remember, when you start feeling dragged down, this is their issue, not yours.

Sparks of InsightAre you using your busy mind to create a better future for yourself, or stay in the rut that you’ve created? You’re always visualizing or using your imagination to form your future. If you’re worried about it not improving, then that’s the blueprint your subconscious will use. It’s been said that spending only a couple of minutes a day of visualizing your desire, in detail, feeling yourself having it, is a technique that the most successful and high achievers use. Then during the day, use your active mind to remember that image and you’ll begin to use your mind positively, rather than letting it run away with you.
