Podcast Interview – Service Without Sacrifice

Podcast Interview – Service Without Sacrifice

Camille Diaz and I were introduced by a mutual acquaintance, with the aim to see if I’d be a good fit for her podcast, Money Heart. Her podcast explores the emotional side of money. Camille is a business coach with The Optimized Zone, who offers courses and private coaching to help business owners streamline their business.

After we decided I’d be a good fit for her podcast, she broached the idea of my wearing a costume for it. I was prepared, as I’d already looked at some of the podcasts. I whipped out the tiara and necklace that I wear to to the Renaissance Faire each year, in costume. She laughed and said she loved to go to Renaissance Festivals in costume, too, and would wear her costume. To see photos of all the looks follow @moneyheartshow on Instagram.

In the podcast, I started out  with my personal story of how I got over involved in community affairs many years ago. My health suffered from stretching myself too thin, and I had to back out of them all to get healthy again. It was so hard to do that, especially when one person resisted. But it was the beginning of my journey to saying, “No,” and I learned valuable lessons from the experience.

We discussed what service actually means. And that when you choose to serve at the expense of your health and well being, there’s nothing left to give to anyone. Unfortunately, women have been trained to set aside their priorities. To serve, they think they have to sacrifice what’s precious to them. In our conversation, we explored why that wasn’t correct.

We agreed that with any service, there needs to be a balance of power and energy. Without that balance of giving and receiving, someone is going to feel uncomfortable. And if someone feels like they have to sacrifice themselves to serve, the issue is generally about something else, like self-esteem or old ideas. Camille asked how we can reprogram those thoughts, and I shared an exercise of how to identify and change the old ideas.

I had a great time talking with Camille. This is a subject we agree is an important one for women to reprocess. It’s time for us to realize that we can serve and have a reasonable exchange that’s beneficial to all concerned.

Money is a simply a tool. It’s not evil or power, as some people believe. It does what you instruct it to do for you. If a person wants it to make them powerful, then their desire for power will drive them to use any of their resources, including money, to control others. If they didn’t have money, then they’d use whatever they could to the same end, such as guilt, emotional blackmail, strength, or manipulation. Money isn’t the instigator, the intention of the individual is. When you want money to give you ease and the comforts of life, then that is your purpose and that is what you will use money for.

Sparks of Insight“Money is the root of all evil.” Did you ever get told that? Actually, the full verse is, “The love of money is the root of all evil.” It means that if we seek money to the exclusion of all else, and not care how we accomplish it, we’ll fall off the spiritual path. Money of itself is a nonentity. It’s simply a symbol that we use for an exchange of services or products. Choosing to have more of it is as positive as wanting to be healthier. As long as it remains the means by which you can expand your experience rather than the end in itself, you’re fulfilling your spiritual purpose.

Sparks of InsightMany people disconnect the material world from the spiritual plane. They think that wanting more physical good, such as abundance or prosperity, isn’t spiritual. Actually, that’s a mistaken belief that prosperity (or anything else) is separate from the Universe. Somehow, the good or abundance exists outside of the Infinite, and the Universe would frown on it. But the Infinite is in everything, including you and prosperity. Why would It withhold It from Itself? The Universe encompasses and includes all good. So start thinking of the good you want as being spiritual.

“Infinite Spirit is drawing to me all the I need and desire for perfect joy, harmony, prosperity and health. Every part of me accepts this now. Only good comes to me and I recognize all that I need to do to ease its way to me.”

Mistaken thoughts and outdated beliefs are the only things that stand between you and the good your desire. As you let them go, more abundance appears in your life. And as you follow Divine guidance in any actions you need to take, this opens the doors for more good to flood in.

Prosperity doesn’t only mean money, wealth and riches. It also means have better health, joy, and the best in all areas of your life. By opening your mind and heart to a greater good, you allow the Universe to pour more of it into your life.

Money Beliefs That Sabotage You

Money Beliefs That Sabotage You

by Linda-Ann Stewart

Money

Terri was a very successful counselor. She had a full practice and got plenty of referrals. But she had deep issues with money, and struggled with the idea of being financially successful. A friend used this as leverage against her. When he browbeat her for taking money for her services, she was swayed by his arguments would often not charge her clients.

He said that if you want to be of service or spiritual, you shouldn’t charge for your gifts. She took his perspective to heart, and eventually lost her business. And because of this, many people lost a counselor who could have guided them into a greater sense of well-being.

What Money Actually Is

This is just one of the myths about money that many people have. Unfortunately, money is one of the most misunderstood tools that we have and need. When money is a problem, it’s generally not about the cash. It’s about something much more basic. Much of our core beliefs, judgments and lack of self-esteem are projected onto money.

Money is merely an exchange of energy, a symbol. It substitutes for a barter system. When one person offers a product or service, a buyer offers money in return. The buyer presents the money they’ve received as a result of their product or service. Of itself, money is only metal or paper.

Some Money Beliefs That Limit You

Here are some of the money beliefs that people have that are keeping them from having their best life.

“Love of money is the root of all evil.” This one comes from the Christian Bible and is pounded into its followers. When money is made more important than anything else, then it can instigate greed, unethical behavior, and stealing. It’s the worship of money that causes problems. But without money, you can’t pay your bills or have an abundant life. Kept in its proper perspective, as a tool, money can do a lot of good.

“Money doesn’t grow on trees” or “Do you think I’m made of money?” Did you hear this one as a child? It was created by harried parents to discourage kids who wanted something more expensive than the budget could handle. Instead of handling it maturely, by explaining why they couldn’t afford the desired item, parents brushed off the child with these expressions.

“The rich are selfish/dishonest/corrupt/etcetera.” There are some wealthy people who give the rest of their class a bad name. They have worshiped money, and didn’t care what they had to do to get it. There are also a lot of poor people who have done the same. But there are also a lot of rich and poor people who are honest, fair and caring.

If you have the attitude that the rich are bad people, then your subconscious won’t allow you to become rich. Your subconscious wants you to be congruent with your beliefs. Therefore, if the rich are bad, and you aren’t and don’t want to be bad, then you can’t become wealthy. Your subconscious will protect you and keep you “good” and lacking cash. This attitude needs to be adjusted before you can allow yourself to receive more prosperity.

More Money Beliefs That Undermine You

“If I receive money, I’m taking it from someone else.” If there isn’t a circulation of money energy, then the pool gets stagnant and starts to shrink. When money comes to you, you’re receiving it through (not from) others. And you then pass it on to other people. It goes to the Mortgage Company, utility company, and grocery store, which then pay their employees. The employees then use it for their bills and to circulate it to you. The more money you receive, the more you’re able to pass on.

“If you serve and/or are spiritual, you have to offer your gift for free.” This was the belief that sabotaged Terri. After she lost her business, she still counseled, but only once in a while. Suppose you have a gift you want to share. If you’re working 40 plus hours a week for someone else, how much time and energy do you have to serve others?

Just because you want to serve doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your time and well-being. If people want the benefit of your gift for nothing, then it means that there’s a market for it and there are going to be folks willing to pay for it. And they also will want to show their gratitude for what they receive, and can do this through the exchange of energy called money.

Change Your Beliefs

Your beliefs about money are based on what you were told and ideas you’ve reinforced by thinking of them often. But they limit you and what you allow yourself to receive. Since beliefs are created by what you think, by changing what you think, you can change your beliefs. When you start recognizing what you’re thinking about money, and start letting go some of the distorted beliefs, you open yourself to more of this energy flowing into your life.

AFFIRMATION

Money is only energy that flows. This energy is circulating smoothly and harmoniously through my life. I discard any outdated limiting ideas about money, wealth and riches. The Universe wishes me to have enough financial support to live an abundant life. The more energy I have, the more I can circulate through others.

Sparks of Insight“God doesn’t recognize the idea of recession or constriction. The only thing the Universe knows is abundance of all good things. Circulation and an increasing expansion of prosperity is mine now.”

As a friend of mine once said, “The recession has nothing to do with my prosperity.” When you have a consciousness of abundance, it doesn’t matter what is going on in the world around you. Your consciousness will attract what is like it, and when you keep your mind focused on prosperity circulating in your life, that’s what you’ll experience.

Book Review-In Tune with the Infinite

Book Review-In Tune with the Infinite

In Tune with the Infinite
by Ralph Waldo Trine

Originally written in 1908, this is a classic in spiritual and mystical literature. It’s said that this was the inspiration for Napoleon Hill’s classic, Think and Grow Rich. Starting from the basic fact that we are all one with the Universe, the author then describes how the Infinite affects every aspect of our lives.

The insights contained in this book uplift and transform the reader’s view of their life. Using stories, examples, and straight talk about awakening to the knowledge of the “real being,” the author writes that as we open ourselves to the Infinite, we experience more health, peace and prosperity.

This was among the first books I read when I began my spiritual journey, and helped to form the foundation of
my spirituality. It deeply explores the meaning of life, and gives specific direction on how to more fully
experience the goodness of the Infinite.

Your subconscious mind has access to the Universal Mind, and has everything you need to create a wonderful life for you. But you need to believe that it can and will do it with your direction. If you feel your subconscious is limited in its abilities and doesn’t know what to do to manifest your desires, then it will follow your command. Trust that it has all the information, wisdom and power, from its connection with the Universe, to bring you all that you want.
