You’re responsible only for your moods and feelings. You are not responsible for whether your friend or loved one is in a bad mood (unless you did something deliberately to irritate them – and that’s a whole other issue). How they feel is their responsibility. It’s not your job to make them feel better. And trying to do so may actually make the situation worse or last longer. They have the resources within them to take care of it, to improve it, and can do so without your interference. When you back out of it and leave them to it, you may notice they improve more rapidly.
