An Amazing Conference

Last week, I returned from attending the National Speaker’s Association 2009 Convention, held in my neighboring city of Phoenix, AZ. What an amazing experience! I kept saying to people, “Can’t I just live here for awhile?” Not only did I learn an incredible amount, but also I met lots of wonderful new people. I heard Nando Parrado describe his experience of surviving the 1972 plane crash in the Andes. After that, everyone kept saying, “We don’t have anything to complain about.” I also listened to Steve Spangler, who originated the Mentos and Diet Coke experiment. He showed us some of his other experiments, some of which have been featured on the television show “Ellen.”  And there was so much more! I came home on an emotional high that is still with me.

Book Review – “Hidden Power for Human Problems”

Hidden Power for Human Problems
by Frederick Bailes

I bought this book some years ago, and don’t let it out of my possession now. The author has identified seven core ideas behind all human problems, and gives directions on how to release them. He explores the premise that any issue we have begins in the mind, with the beliefs we hold. Any difficulty or challenge is simply an effect of our thought patterns. Therefore, if it begins in mind, it can be resolved with the changing of one’s mind.

The first chapter deals with how he healed himself of diabetes, in a time before insulin. In further chapters, he addresses the problems of anger, overweight, anxiety, failure, feeling unloved, and more. He covers some basic metaphysical principles, and gives specific instructions on healing techniques.

How can I learn to concentrate better?

Question: How can I learn to concentrate better, so that my mind doesn’t wander?

Answer: Do you have a lot of pressure on you? Have you had a lot of stress? These would cause your mind to wander as a
way of escaping and having a mental vacation. Have you been doing any meditation, exercise, or any sort of stress
reduction techniques? That would be my first recommendation to you.

Secondly, sometimes, the mind gets tired of focusing, and needs some time away from it. Concentrating on one thing for
a long period is exhausting, so if you’ve been doing that, start breaking the periods up.

I’d also suggest you download the instructions on how to do self-hypnosis from my site. Start practicing self-hypnosis, and imagine that you’re somewhere pleasant, such as a vacation spot, where no one can bother you.

This sounds odd, but simply doing meditation or self-hypnosis each day will give your mind a rest, while at the same time, they help to train your mind to concentrate better.

Fourth of July Fireworks

FireworksLast weekend was our Independence Day. Jeff and I had a quiet day away from the crowds.

In the evening, my oldest friend Linda (Yes, we have the same first name. It was very confusing when we were growing up) came to view the fireworks with us.

We walked about five minutes to a side street, plopped our chairs down, and watched the fireworks going off about .75 of a mile away. We could even see the tops of some of the ground displays. There were some new shapes of fireworks. Our small town really put on a very nice show.

FireworksThese are some of the photos that Jeff took that evening. To me, they look like Dandelions, flowers blowing in the wind, or exotic plants.FireworksFireworks

“4 Obstacles to Change and What To Do About Them”

by Linda-Ann Stewart

Over the years, I’ve worked with many people to make changes in their lives. Some succeed completely, some partially, and others disappear when they begin to make breakthroughs. I’ve discovered that there are four main reasons why a person may not follow through and achieve their goals.

1.    You don’t want the goal enough to do what is necessary to achieve it. Some people want to just dream about their desire, without putting any effort or action into its creation. Just imagining how a room will look with new paint on the wall and the furniture recovered won’t get it done. Visualizing what you want and then taking steps to order the paint and sew the fabric for the furniture will be what manifests it for you.

The same is true for any goal. To reduce weight, you have to ingest fewer calories than you use and get active. If you want a greater income, you may need to ask for a raise, get more training, or move your residence. In some cases, a complete lifestyle change (mental and physical) may be in order.

2.    There’s a conflict between your conscious and subconscious minds. Consciously you want your goal, and have been taking steps to achieve it, but keep getting blocked. If this is the case, your conscious and subconscious minds may be disagreeing on whether your goal is acceptable. You subconscious mind is acting on the sum total of all the information its been given over your entire lifetime.

By blocking you, your subconscious thinks it’s helping you. But it’s doing it in a way that you no longer need. You need to communicate to it that you really do want this goal. Let it know that the old messages about the goal no longer applies, that you deserve your desire. You can use affirmations, self-hypnosis, action, journaling, talking to yourself in the mirror or various other techniques to get the subconscious mind’s attention and cooperation.

3.    The change makes you too uncomfortable. This is more common that you’d guess. If you change too much, too fast, your subconscious will pull back on the reins. You’ll miss appointments, get sick, or lose interest in your goal. One of the things you’ll probably need is to find new ways to cope with the challenges of your life. This is one of the reasons the subconscious sabotages progress. You’re starting to make changes, but haven’t created new strategies to deal with stress.

If you truly want a fuller life, you have to change the way you think about yourself to fulfill your complete vision. When someone inappropriately criticizes you, instead of heading to the refrigerator to make yourself feel better, tell them to cut it out. If you feel inadequate to handle being promoted, instead of backing out of it, remind yourself of all your positive qualities, all the things you’ve accomplished, and that you can learn new skills.

4.    You’re trying too hard. You may want your goal too much, so much that you’re trying to force it to happen. The reason for this is fear that it won’t happen. If this is the case, your subconscious is acting on the fear, and there’s no way you can accomplish your goal while in this state of mind.

Once you’ve done everything you can, let the Universe work with you. Your subconscious is the creative part of you, and the Universe is the power. Tell yourself that your subconscious and the Universe know how to manifest anything you want. Remember things you’ve manifested in the past by trusting in the Universe. Then let your subconscious and the Universe take care of the details.

Most people want to improve their lives, but don’t know what to do when things aren’t moving forward. They can’t identify what’s holding them back. Once you recognize the obstacle, you can then begin to dismantle it. Use any tools that can help you, and start chipping away at the blocks. Soon you’ll have a clear path to your goal.

Affirmation:

Through the power of Universal mind, I can have all that I desire in life. I deserve it and can handle it. As I take the steps necessary to achieve my goal, the Universe comes to meet me with everything I need. I support myself in my progress. My subconscious mind and the Universe know how to accomplish my goal and I trust them to take care of the details.
